I remember seeing a video on MTV, probably around 3rd grade, with a guy running around in some sort of industrial complex getting his hand stuck to things and fire shooting out of the walls at him.
I thought it was a Rush song, so several years ago I asked Kris if he knew anything about a Rush song with weird lyrics that went into binary at parts, but he didn't know. I couldn't find it on my own. I did today, though.
The song was "The Body Electric" off of "Grace Under Pressure (1984)", and it was apparently about a robot rebelling against its programming and trying to escape. (lyrics) "Well, that's kind of cool," I thought to myself, "that means my brain somehow picked that song to remember since about 1985 or so." I also had the sense of relief one gets when one remembers that particular word that's been at the tip of your tongue.
That was fine. But in the process, I found this guy. He had been searching for an album that
Rush's "2112" would sync up to, much like the "Pink Floyd:Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz" thing. What did he find? Willy Wonka and his big crazy Chocolate Factory. Well anyway, he's obviously put a lot of effort into it. At first I started wondering what kind of movies the albums I like would sync up to, but then I realized that when I have something as variably meaningful as music, you can make it go with almost anything. For example, I used to listen to the KMFDM album "NIHIL" and play Subspace a lot, and it seemed to me then that the song "Ultra" was meant to go along with space fighters blowing each other up.
There are worse things to spend your time doing.
A while back I thought I had found the big fat meaning of the internet. And it was that one guy and his pink blinking website. I found another one! It's Ben Schumin. Read his quotes! See the amazing Shumin Web Shirts! And WHEN you, like everyone else, are overtaken by an intense need to contact Ben Shumin, make sure you read the CONTACTING BEN SHUMIN FAQ. Also, his site doesn't seem to work so good in netscape. I found this guy's page through
what used to be the DFC, written by Spinn, who is currently going nuts about Ben.
Is it hypocritical to have a personal website and talk loudly about other peopleses websites? Sure... and being hypocritical is really bad. Awful. Oh man! The worst! Don't be hypocritical, everybody!
I need to get a car so I can put pictures of my car on my website. I'm thinking Volvo. Hmm. Racing station wagon. 850 R.
It's a good thing it's easy to be flippant.
A pulse of dying power in a clenching plastic fist. Meaning.
