When hobbies collide |
8:20 pm
I'm at my desk, wearing my new big stupid-looking headphones, guitar in lap, typing into log file, computer security book open on desk in front of me, cakewalk open in other window. I'm trying to do all my hobbies at once, since it's the weekend. So, I'm converting a MOD file into a MIDI representation for posting on my page somewhere, and playing along with it on guitar (distorted and processed through a MIDI controlled DSP rack) at the same time reading about DoD trusted computer systems and the various security certifications they have to get. It's a good thing I don't skate anymore.

Yesterday, Taj (of tech support) invited me over to for dinner. It was the first time I'd hung out with new people for quite a while. So, Taj and his girlfriend made dinner ,gave me a tour of their little house and garden, and played scrabble with me. They showed me a grocery store close to where I live called 'Trader Joes'. I no longer have to choose between eating 7-11 food/garbage and walking the 8 or 10 blocks to Safeway. I can eat normal food! See, I'm amazingly ignorant of my neighborhood. Someday I will know this area better. And then I'll move somewhere else. Yeahhh.

On the employment side of things, the other webmaster just resigned. He got a job somewhere else getting paid twice as much. That means: I'm an associate webmaster, but I don't have anyone to associate with. It's looking like they're going to change my title or something. That's fine. They can give me a raise, too. My duties aren't going to change at all. I already do all the stuff that a webmaster does. (Psst. In Seattle, WA, a company is hiring webmaster types for 70K a year. You have to be Microsoft savvy, a masta of backoffice and NT server and wot not. Wanna make a counteroffer, oh company of mine?)
