May 7 - May Index - Tomorrow?

Today's ride brings my bike mileage total to 800 miles. I coulda gone from San Francisco to Seattle by now! In only what, 8 months? Hmm. Not exactly Nancy Taylor, but I'm working on it. An interesting feature of Seattle is the Marymoor Velodrome. I bumbled past it on my (one and only) 60 mile ride up and down the Burke-Gillman trail, not realizing that it was one of 20 (velodromes) in the country (according to some random sports magazine I was flipping through at B&O). Now that I know it's a somewhat rare thing, I want to try it out, maybe. Ride my bike in little circles on steeply banked walls at insanely high speeds. Sporty or what? It's open to the public on non-event days blah blah flab jab jacket blat

During the ride, these same guys passed us like three times. They'd pass us on a downhill part, then we'd pass them five minutes later as they do some sort of stationary group thing on the side of the road. Then they'd pass us again. Wtf, man? Are you getting as much mileage as possible out of the one group of people you've found that you can pass? Anyway, while passing, one of them commented to Helen, "nice chainstay". We were trying to figure out if this was some kind of weird bicyclist come-on when we passed them again. (The chainstay is the part of the bike that goes from the part where your pedals go through the frame, through the chain, to where the back wheel is attached. Not a particularly attractive stretch of aluminum.)

After that, burgers, shakes, + donuts, eliminating any sort of caloric advantage the trip had on my dietary balance.
