<-- may --> The More Things Change 1:35 AM Today was Brandon's birthday party. I spent two hours standing around in his apartment, slightly uncomfortable from the atmosphere of strangers. The ywere watching some kind of generic bruce willis cop movie (the kind that have names like "Hot Heat") on TV. Most of them are from his workplace as far as I know. Much older than him, married with kids or even beyond that stage. One of the couples brought a baby. To a 26th birthday party. If there are any babies at my 26th Birthday (which is in a week), they are getting locked in a room with the "Teletubbies" for six hours while I go out and have fun. Babies may be a lot of things, but they are not party people. Also, it seemed like most of the people were actually Marina's friends. At least, when I first got there. Much later, Brian and Kris showed up, and the Baby- and old- people left, and then it was just us band people watching the action movie channel and amusing each other. Later, I took Brian to Kirkland, where his girlfriend's parents' house is, and then I had to stop back at Kris' girlfriends' house to drop off his bag, which he had left in my car. For some reason I wound up hanging out there for a little while, talking to Kris about the weird situation of Brandon's life, and how we're not sure how to discuss it with him, as it is both difficult to lead into that topic in a conversation AND hard to get Brandon to talk about stuff like that at any length. Most of the things I worry about can be boiled down to: Brandon may be tolerating a situation he doesn't like because he doesn't know what a "healthy" relationship is like. This is projection, because I am assuming that Brandon wants the same things out of a relationship that I do. Perhaps he is doing great and wants no change at all. Maybe his reluctance at marriage (which Marina is enthusiastically pursuing) is just nervousness about such a big event. I don't know. So I took all his andagi and went home. There aren't any drugs at folk life this year! Just marijuana and shrooms! -- Brian
