I was talking to my older sister on the phone recently, and we were arguing about which one of us had the responsibility of perpetuating our blood line, since none of us have had kids or are even married. Both of us don't see ourselves having kids anytime soon. In fact, I don't see myself having kids ever. Finally, we agreed that Ian has to do it. He's big and jolly and won't be mean to his kids.
If I had kids, I'd spend a ton of money to make their lives harder. I would want for them to have to do everything that I never had to do. I'd buy a remote house surrounded by a giant bowl of snow, so they'd have to walk a mile uphill in the snow no matter where they wanted to go. I'd go out and find slow, ancient computers for them to use, so they'd be forced to appreciate every single CPU cycle as it executed in super-slow-motion. Oh, they'd have internet, I guess, but it would be through a 300 baud dialup. I'd probably have to open my own ISP just to get that capability once more. (Remembering when BBSes used to list their supported baud rates.. ahh.. 300 1200 2400 MNP5) (Remembering only being able to use 1200)
The reasoning behind all this stupidity is that the previous generation of parents worked hard to provide everything to their kids that they never had. What they turned out was a generation of whiny guff-speaking work-slackers that don't know how to do anything. So hey, do the opposite, get different results, right? Right. I'll pay for the coal mine to have a job in and whatever other hardships my little one would require to be a Good Person.
