  No smoke is good

One thing about traveling: I tend to write about the stuff I did today instead of whatever random thing I'm thinking about. I'm about to do it again.

Today I was all set to bike around the fisherman's wharf area with Beanie and Helen, but then everyone felt sick and it started raining some real bad. So instead, I went around SF in my car looking for stuff to look at. I went to Sausalito for coffee and pizza. At the cafe where I got those things, the lady in front of me in line took the time to complain about EVERY SINGLE ITEM she ordered. Beer doesn't have a big enough head on it. Wine wasn't good enough. Lord knows what was wrong with the food. She could have been the first member of Loud And Fat. So it took me a while to get all my stuff. Good pizza, though.

Later I went back to Noe Valley, met up with Jay and Silent Bob for beer at "Annie's". Jay and Silent Jen, I meant. She was somewhat talkative, actually, but compared to Jay she was a regular mute. That is to say, Jay talks a lot. About himself. I got to find out what Jen's doctoral dissertation was on, and Jen and Jay found out that I had been in a mosh pit as recently as two weeks ago. We didn't exactly have the soul-searchingest conversation ever, but it was at least a cute place to have beer.

Ater that, Helen and I hit the DNA lounge. I like the color scheme of the website, of course. The music was good, and the club was very empty. No wonder they lose money on good music nights. Oh yeah, when we tried to park, some guy with a flashlight motioned us into a nearby parking lot and acted like he was a parking lot attendant. When I asked him for credentials, he produced an ID card for an addiction treatment program. I told him it was nothing personal, but he had to understand that I had reservations about entrusting my vehicle to a stranger in a strange city I'm not familiar with the customs of. I took my chances on the street, and it cost me nothing.

Do you think DJs have a term for when they put on a song and it clears the dance floor? 'Oops?' -- Helen
