Homan! So I finally got to sleep just before I had to wake up and go to the studio, which wasn't exactly good planning on my part it turns out. I take a taxi up to middle of nowhere, echo lake.
Can I pay by credit card? Nooo. Why not? I don't have enough cash. Oh, credit card thingie is down today. Fine, where's an ATM? And hurry, because the studio clock is running, though everyone else hasn't arrived yet.
Wandering around in a cab, I find a 7-11. Yess! Except that their ATM is down. In fact, that's probably related to the cab not being able to process credit cards, because a lot of ATMs in the area are down. Finally I find a branch of my bank
and get the money there. I return to the studio, just as the rest of the band is arriving (half an hour late).
We discovered that we want to record most drum instruments on their own track, since we have 24 to work with. That explains why the first two drum machines we had were equipped with way too many outputs on the back - it facilitates recording.
The way we have to do it now is: mute everything except a single drum and play the song. Repeat for all drums. If there are two monophonic drums, we can pan each one to hard opposite sides and record two at once. It takes us 6 hours to record (most of!) the drums for 4 songs.
Tonight, Kris and I labor at our respective homes, splitting out drums to tracks so we can do track->solo on the Akai and save ourselves a little button pushing. The mixes sound gooooood. Real good. Except that no one has picked up any instruments yet.
I will split out the tracks for the sequences I have, then I must leave my house once again to get tracks from Kris to complete. Tomorrow we convene at 12 sharp.
